After weeks of training, today was finally the Folsom Super Bowl 10K run. As I mentioned in a previous post, the race directors were tragically killed December 30th, and for a while it didn't look like the run was going to happen. Thursday, Elemental Running (from Las Vegas!) stepped up and took over running the event.
The word that the race was still on must not have really gotten around (I received an email, so I'm not sure why) as there were not a lot of participants that showed up. Which was sad since the new race directors travelled from so far, and the weather was perfect for the run.
A few friends were also running, and I ran with Gregg for the majority of the run. I like running with Gregg as I seem to run at a faster pace than when running an event by myself. We ran together for the first three-fourths of the event before he took off (and beat me by almost four minutes!).
The run went good, and I felt good throughout. My knees were a little sore at the end, but they quickly seemed to recover. My goal for the year was a 62 minute 10K, and well, I've now already accomplished that:
It's great to have met that goal, but it hurts a bit to have can so close to breaking the hour mark. I would have just had to trim 4 seconds per mile to make that happen. Guess that leaves open a goal for my next run.
As an interesting side note, the top three guys in the run missed the turn-around point and ended up running almost 9 miles before they made it back to the start/finish line. Glad that wasn't me. Not sure that I'd be able to make it that long.
